Network Systems Administrator-Systems

Provides support in a 24/7/365 days/year role to monitor and support critical network elements using real time alarming of network faults and notifications. Will perform proactive network element status and health checks as part of normal surveillance activities. Will perform periodic maintenance to improve network reliability and functionality. Will manage projects to install and configure new network equipment and improve network availability and redundancy. Will provide support to Network Technicians and Network Specialists to resolve network interruptions. May require working the evening or night shift as well as on-call coverage for all shifts. The ideal candidates will have advanced experience with Cisco, Zhone, Occam equipment, servers and server operating systems, server virtualization, open-source operating systems and software, VoIP, Metaswitch Softswitch, Session Border Controllers, scripting and programming languages, advanced understanding of Ethernet switch and IP routing concepts, standards, and operations.
|Duties:||Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: (Other duties may be assigned.)|
Monitors the network for trouble conditions, implements network troubleshooting procedures to isolate specific trouble source and take corrective action.
Initiates, updates, tracks and closes trouble tickets; creates and sends network alerts as needed to internal organizations (Customer Care, Repair, Provisioning, etc.).
Executes effective actions to meet Mean Time to Repair and Network Availability goals and objectives.
Directs and coordinates corrective actions to restore and repair network conditions internally and externally.
Actively researches servers and IP networks for areas of potential problems or implementing quality improvements.
Works with other team members when necessary to correct or improve network performance.
Ensures optimum performance of all data network elements and systems
Ensures network equipment and server configurations and updates are correct and current.
Create scripts or programs to automate common network processes.
Manipulate data from various network and system elements to identify trends, create reports and provide data to other departments or customers.
Performs preventive/routine end-to-end maintenance processes.
Provides technical support, training, and guidance to junior or less experienced technicians.
Identifies procedural errors and takes them back to the source or management. Works to ensure that procedures and processes are clear and will be followed going forward.
Manages complex projects to install and configure network equipment.
Performs maintenance and configuration changes of the Metaswitch Voice platform.
Provide advanced support for various voice platforms including Metaswitch, Asterisk, Gendband.

Education and/or Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent.
College degree preferred.
Minimum of eight years experience in data and voice networks and systems
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
Advanced understanding of data/IP networks equipment, terminology and standards.
Advanced understanding of Ethernet switching and IP routing including VLANs, access lists, and routing protocols.
Advanced understanding of network security and firewalls.
Advanced understanding of Zhone and Occam Broadband Loop Carriers.
Advanced experience with configuring and troubleshooting Cisco routers and switches.
Advanced understanding of VoIP protocols.
Advanced knowledge of architecture and major components of softswitch-based, next-generation, converged networks including Metaswitch.
Advanced knowledge of VoIP softswitch translations.
Advanced knowledge of Session Border Controllers
Advanced knowledge of infrastructure support systems, i.e. RADIUS, DNS
Ability to effectively troubleshoot complex network performance issues.
Ability to assess the impact of different network problems on end-user services.
Advanced knowledge of server hardware and operating systems.
Advanced knowledge of scripting/programming/data manipulation.
Advanced knowledge of database administration.
Server virtualization technology including VMware and open-source alternatives.
Open-source operating systems and software.
Advanced ability with Microsoft Excel
Advanced knowledge of Network Monitoring Systems including Solarwinds, Nagios, ZenOS and others.
Ability to quickly learn new and implement new technologies.
Ability to work independently as part of a team.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Analytical and patient with technical details.
Self-starter, highly organized and able to work with minimum supervision.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
CCNP or higher required.
Metaswitch certifications a plus.
Operating Systems/Server certifications a plus.
